Altered carbon resleeved12/25/2023 ![]() ![]() From the stern government agent to the cocky crime boss, every character delivered pretty much what I expected of them. While none of these characters blew me away, they never broke my enjoyment of the movie any. I won’t give spoilers, but I felt that everything came together in a satisfyingly unique way that utilized its setting very well.Īlong with the story of Altered Carbon: Resleeved, the characters contained within mostly fall into the rank of solid performances. With a mostly solid story, I really enjoyed the ending. An interesting plot, reasonably solid characters, and a plethora of brutal fight sequences all came together to deliver a solid sci-fi action story that uses its setting in intelligent ways. This didn’t hinder my enjoyment of this feature whatsoever. I’ve always heard good things about this franchise, I just have never gotten around to checking it out. Now serving as her bodyguard, along with a no-nonsense CTAC agent named Gena (Cox), Takeshi searches out the answer to the mystery of why someone wants Holly dead in a tale that would only fit in the world of Altered Carbon.Īltered Carbon: Resleeved is my first foray into this sci-fi universe. Through a chance meeting with Takeshi Kovacs (Chase), she finds safety. But when a crucial participant, a teenage tattoo artist named Holly (Maxwell) comes under attack from outside assailants, things quickly become unstable. This clan of yakuza is preparing for an extremely important event for the clan. Now, as people slip from one body, or “sleeve,” to another, who someone becomes is even more difficult to determine.įleshing out more of the world introduced in the original Altered Carbon series, Altered Carbon: Resleeved takes viewers into the world of the Mizumoto clan. People have discovered a way to transfer consciousness into a digital form, making death no longer inevitable. The limits of expansion are being tested in every way. In the future, humanity has traveled to the stars. It is a fun watch, but don’t expect a deep or believable story.Altered Carbon: Resleeved is a cyberpunk action movie from Netflix starring Ray Chase, Brittany Cox, and Elizabeth Maxwell. However, I do wish there was a lot more care and reason to explore the life and story of Takeshi, he is a pretty special character and deserves better story arcs and character growth than in this film. Overall this movie felt like a fun trip into a new style for Altered Carbon, and I hope to see various new animations or even spin-offs to go deeper into the other settled worlds. A fan of the show would have a hard time knowing it was Takeshi if he wasn’t identified by the movie itself. But he is also less sarcastic and more serious throughout the whole movie, making him pretty boring and uninteresting to watch. ![]() The character is stiff and brash, which isn’t too far off. As for the characters themselves, Takeshi's new sleeve, actor, and version seems the most unlike Takeshi. ![]() It is nice to see the connection, but the twists, turns, reveals, and plot complexities are pretty predictable and feel almost boring at times. As I said, it is a totally watchable movie, but the story is mostly shallow and just gives some better insight and understanding to things that happen later in Season 2. However, loads of beautiful animation can’t make bad things great. But aside from the actual fights, the design and artwork as a whole was real easy on the eyes and a pleasure to watch. Some of the abilities and technologies seem to be a little outside of the universe of Altered Carbon, but it is an anime and never becomes too much for the show. These fight scenes could make even the worst stories watchable. The slick animation, high contrasting colors, and beautiful action scenes make the movie very entertaining to watch. This anime is basically looked at from two points: visuals and story. Takeshi is hired as a bodyguard and must work with an unlikely ally while fighting against crazy powerful ninja-enhanced sleeves. With an emphasis on animation and action, the story suffered a lot, even more than in Season 2 of Altered Carbon. After the mixed reviews for Season 2 of Altered Carbon, an anime film was quite the surprise, and most fans were very excited. ![]()
